Dartmouth Crossing holds official opening for first 35 stores.

August 9, 2007

Halifax, NS – Dartmouth Crossing held its official opening ceremony today as part of its Grand Opening week of activity.

“It is with great satisfaction and excitement that we stand here on this site and officially open our doors,” said Glenn Munro, managing director of North American Development Group. “With the cooperation of the city and province and the help of some outstanding organizations and individuals we’ve converted this area from a remediated brownfield site to one of the most modern retail and office parks in Canada in just a little over two years.”

Dartmouth Crossing is currently home to 35 open shops and services operating in 600,000 s.f. of space. By Christmas, there will be more than 50 stores and over 900,000 square feet of retail space open including restaurants, big and medium sized retail, shops, boutiques and a theatre.

Mr. Munro was joined by the Hon. Angus MacIsaac, Deputy Premier and Minister of Transportation and Public Works of Nova Scotia and HRM Mayor Peter Kelly.

Minister MacIsaac commented on the role that infrastructure can play in developing the economy. “Dartmouth Crossing is a $270 million dollar private sector investment that was spurred on by the construction of an ultra modern interchange that incorporates links to Shubie Park and includes Atlantic Canada’s first service lane on a 100 series highway. The province was pleased to play a role in helping to realize this great new addition to Dartmouth, all of Halifax Regional Municipality and Nova Scotia.”

Mayor Kelly welcomed Dartmouth Crossing to Halifax Regional Municipality. “Dartmouth Crossing is a wonderful new facility for retail and commercial tenants, offering a marvellous variety of new stores for customers to enjoy. Halifax Regional Municipality was pleased to work with Dartmouth Crossing to see this development built well, built fast and built in an environmentally sensitive way. The addition of new trails, parks and re-furbished waterways will add greatly to the Shubie Park trail system.”

Construction is also underway to complete in 2008 the three final sections of Phase 1 that will add an additional 50 stores, shops, boutiques and restaurants to Dartmouth Crossing. In addition, planning is underway for future phases of the development encompassing an additional 300 acres.

“We’ll take a moment to relax and enjoy this moment but our focus is now on completing the construction now in progress and the planning for the next phase of this exciting project,” says Munro.
